Beware of Hotel and Attendee-list Scams
What you need to know to stay safe
It has come to our attention that scammers are targeting our meeting attendees and exhibitors, attempting to sell attendee lists and solicit bookings at unauthorized hotels. MJH does not rent or sell email lists to third parties.
Please be aware of any message coming from sources not affiliated with MJH. Avoid interaction with them.
Attendee List Email Scam
Unfortunately, emails are circulating that offer to sell attendee lists for many of MJH’s conferences. These emails are sent by scammers impersonating MJH.
They do not have any attendee information. MJH does not sell its exhibitor or attendee lists, and no third-party is authorized to distribute or sell any lists related to our events. Statements claiming to offer our attendee lists are fraudulent.
If you receive emails that propose to sell MJH conference attendee lists, do not engage with the sender and delete the message immediately as it puts your contact information at risk. Often, responding to these emails (even to “unsubscribe”) confirms to them that they have reached a valid email address.
We encourage you instead to block the sender, delete the email, and report scammers to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission fraud division (https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/).
Hotel Booking Scam
Our conferences are also the target of hotel scams. Scammers call or email attendees and exhibitors, claiming to represent MJH or MJH vendors, and encourage our customers to book rooms using fake promotion codes at a variety of hotels close to the conference venue(s).
MJH and our host hotels will never send emails or place phone calls to individuals in order to promote specific accommodations. All housing information for our events will only be listed on the accommodation and/or registration pages for the specific event.
If you receive emails or calls regarding discounted hotel accommodations at an MJH event, please disregard and do not engage with the sender.
We apologize for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, many large conferences are being targeted for scam messages.
